UCC Price Watch July: hot month sees menus frozen

UCC Coffee’s Price Watch for July reports yet another quiet month, with prices remaining static among the high streets brands.

It said: “This July has been one of the hottest on record, yet prices across the high street’s core menus have frozen.”

Price Watch is produced monthly by UCC, monitoring prices charged by leading high street brands, from Starbucks and Costa to Subway, Debenhams and JD Wetherspoon.

UCC says that while prices have remained static operators have adapted to the summer market.

The M&S Café introduced a range of 'Iced Drinks' to its menu: cloudy and strawberry lemonades, strawberry and chocolate milkshakes and a 'frappelatte'. Meanwhile, Pret is actively pushing fresh, real fruit smoothies, front and centre of point of sale marketing material.

Last month Coffee Business World reported (CBW, July 17) Good & Proper Tea is out to challenge Lipton’s dominance of the iced tea market in the UK with its brand new range of Iced Teas - a new, sugar-free alternative to the big players’ offering.
