Roasting Plant Coffee to open second UK site
Roasting Plant Coffee, the immersive coffee experience chain from Ex-Starbucks executive Mike Caswell, is set to open its second site on The Strand in London at the beginning of March.
The UK business is run in a joint 50:50 joint venture with entrepreneur Jamie Robertson, who is managing director of the UK company.
Robertson told Beverage Business World that this was the first of a planned roll-out for the concept, which has already proved popular with Londoners. He confirmed it is also actively looking for further sites in Canary Wharf, City of London, West End and Soho.
It opened its first site outside the US in a 50-seat venue in London's Borough High Street in January 2019. The new 1,425 sq. ft. venue at 190 The Strand is expected to open on 4th March.
“It is right opposite the Royal Courts of Justice and next to a very busy Pret,” Robertson said.
“I absolutely wanted to be in that area because you have all of the schools with the London School of Economics, King’s College London, London School of Fashion and the Australian Embassy. It is a busy area.”
Its sites, which have been described as "Willy Wonka" style and like stepping into a “walk-in roastery”, allow consumers to view the coffee beans being produced from green bean to cup and serves just roasted coffee.
The US concept, created by Caswell, also has sites in New York, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver and San Francisco.
