Rapid expansion for TY
TY, formerly known as Timberyard, the ‘workspace fused with speciality tea and coffee’, is looking to expand the business over the next four to five years by opening eight new sites.
Speaking to Coffee Business World, co-founder of TY Darren Elliott said they were searching for new sites in London. “We’re looking for pockets south of the river which have established themselves as creative areas, like London Bridge, Battersea, Oval, Peckham and even Elephant & Castle, where the vibe is fantastic and is starting to draw people in from all over the area.”
He continued: “We’re looking to scale up very quickly now, hopefully rolling out two per year so that we have 10 sites within four to five years.”
TY currently operates from two sites, at Seven Dials (Covent Garden) and at Facebook’s new London HQ which opened in December. Within the building they operate two counters, one on the ground floor and the other in the VIP area on the 6th floor, both of which have presented the business with new challenges. “We’re the only thing in the building that staff have to pay for, so our challenge is to grow sales in there,” Elliott explained, adding that prices are “slightly reduced” on the top five drinks.
“We had consolidated TY to two operations but will now look to grow the business with our focus solely on public workspaces with speciality tea and coffee, modelled on our Seven Dials site,” he said.
