Quenched Drinks are a brand new exhibitor for European Coffee, Tea & Soft Drinks Expo in May.  Here Mike Bate, Director talks to Beverage Business World about his plans for the show.

  • You have booked to exhibit at European Coffee, Tea & Soft Drinks Expo 2020 for the first time. Can you tell us why? 

I needed to select a show in the first half of the year when buyers are reviewing their product selection.  As the show grows its soft drinks category it is a good time to stand out.  Many coffee and tea buyers are also responsible for soft drinks so thought it is a good opportunity to engage with them.

  • What key product or products are you planning to showcase at the show?

Our fruit and soda collection includes lime, orange, and blackcurrant in attractive, fully recyclable, aluminium 250ml cans. All natural ingredients, low calorie, lightly carbonated drink.  This may seem a simple choice but that is by design – refreshingly simple and simply refreshing!  The market is flooded with niche flavour mixes and sparkling mineral water so we aim to appeal to a wider potential customer base.  Bicarbonate of soda makes a big difference to the refreshing finish of a drink too.  We will have plenty of samples for buyers and visitors to try on our stand.

  • What are your plans for the year ahead? Is there any new launches or initiatives planned? 

We aim to establish ‘Quenched Drinks’ further in 2020 before bigger ambitions in 2021 and beyond.  It is important to walk before you run in this market.  We are doing well in independent chains and caterers which suits us, and our customers, fine.

  • What do you see as the key current opportunities and challenges for the sector right now? 

The soft drinks market is too busy with similar products.  The dominance of the major players also presents a competitive environment where individual service, new ideas, and USP’s have to differentiate you.  Smaller form factors, environmentally friendly attributes and healthy recipes are all contributing factors to being successful.
