New Cannabidiol tea drink aims to 'disrupt' soft drinks sector

A Cannabidiol Botanical Tea Drink is set to join Botantic Lab's range of plant-based drinks in a bid to ‘disrupt the soft drinks industry and change the social drinking landscape’.

Launched this week, the new Cannabidiol Tea Drink combines sour cherry and floral hibiscus flavours with botanical hemp CBD extract.

In a press statement, Botanic Lab commented: “In a digital age where connection on a personal level is harder than ever, Botanic Lab is providing a 21st century version of ‘dutch courage’ without the alcohol, giving its drinkers all the health benefits of the much-heralded CBD and easing the social anxiety that sometimes comes with the fast-paced social interactions we are all now engaged in.

“In recent years the nutritional benefits of CBD have gained much public and scientific interest in areas from anxiety to sleep and even appetite. Each Cannabidiol Botanical Tea drink contains 2mg of hemp CBD extract, an amount ideal for general health maintenance.”

Botanic Lab founder Rebekah Hall added: “Consumers are increasingly bypassing alcohol in favour of soft drink options, but even in this day and age the non-alcohol choices are limited, boring and frankly a little flaccid. The introduction of this Botanical Tea Drink range is what we have been waiting for. The CBD Botanical Tea is part of a new range, which also includes Yerba Maté, Green Tea and Damiana. All are free from refined sugars, artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners.

The new Botanic Lab Cannabidiol Botanical Tea Drink is now available in premium bars and restaurants, priced at £2.50 - £3.99 RRP.


Tetley expands 'On The Go' range with green tea blend

Tetley is expanding its Fresh Seal ‘On The Go’ cup range with the launch of a green tea blend.

The move follows research from Tetley’s Tea Report 2018 that showed the food-to-go sector was now worth one-third of all out-of-home spend, as well as 29% of consumers expecting to drink more green tea than they did a year ago.

Tetley said it was aiming to meet the growing demand for out-of-home spend, along with the increasing interest in green tea with its new addition.

Tetley’s Fresh Seal ‘On The Go’ range was originally developed for the travel industry, to provide a one-stop in-flight solution.

The new cup offers customers a fast and hassle-free solution to deliver the great taste of Tetley Green Tea to consumers and is available in cases of 240 cups with each individual cup sealed for food safety, freshness and convenience.

Tetley’s Green Tea is sourced from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms. To ensure the cup is best suited to the on-the-go market, it features a double-walled functionality in order to keep the tea warm without the exterior of the cup getting too hot for holding. This double-walled functionality ensures there is no need for a traditional paper sleeve, thus minimalising waste. 

Coca-Cola to develop cannabis drink

Coca-Cola announced this week that it is looking to develop cannabis-based drinks as its next product diversification, reports the Local Data Company.

As sales of fizzy drinks have been declining over the past years, Coca-Cola has launched several alternative product lines, including water and juices, and recently announced that it was purchasing Costa Coffee from Whitbread (CBW, September 9).

It is looking into providing drinks with Cannabidiol, which derives from cannabis and can help ease pain and inflammation, but has no psychoactive effect. 

In a statement, Coca-Cola said: “Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive cannabidiol as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world."
