Huhtamaki launches new compostable cup

Huhtamaki, the packaging specialist, has launched its new compostable Bioware Impresso Double Walled Hot Cup.

The ‘feel good’ cup, which is manufactured in the UK, utilises sustainable 100% PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) paperboard with a plant based PLA coating on the inside.

According to Huhtamaki the innovative design means that the cup actually uses up to 25% less material than most other smooth walled double and triple wall cups on the market.

Becci Eplett, marketing manager at Huhtamaki UK, said: “We are experts in both cup design and manufacture, and our latest innovation, ‘feel good’ adds a compostable double wall cup to the range with our unique Impresso outer wrap that feels good to hold and provides enhanced insulation.  The ‘feel good’ compostable Impresso has EN13432 certification which means that it is compostable in the UK at approved composting facilities.”

Costa products to be rolled out internationally

Coca‑Cola HBC – one of the largest Coca‑Cola bottlers in the world – plans to launch Costa Coffee products in at least 10 of its 28 markets next year.

The Costa products will be launched in Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia and Switzerland.

The news comes after Coca-Cola and Costa Coffee announced the first major product launch, since the soft drinks’ giant acquisition of Costa.

The Costa Coffee ready-to-drink (RTD) launch, which is available in three variants – Classic Latte, Caramel Latte and Black Americano – is canned coffee brewed with Costa Coffee beans and designed for consumers looking for a genuine coffee hit from a chilled coffee.

Coca‑Cola HBC CEO Zoran Bogdanovic said:  “Adding a brand as strong as Costa Coffee to our portfolio will allow us to capture more consumer occasions, to partner even more closely with our customers across all channels and strengthen our ability to address every drinking moment throughout the day. Our well-established infrastructure, processes and capabilities around coffee means that we will hit the ground running with this exciting opportunity.”

The Coca‑Cola Company acquired Costa Coffee in January 2019 and has accelerated the business, focusing on expanding in vending and ready-to-drink products.
