European Coffee Expo ‘Exhibitor spotlight’: Conti-Espresso
Each week we’ll be bringing you the latest news, exhibitor profiles, visitor information, conference speakers and more to keep you up-to-date with what’s going to be happening at European Coffee Expo, which takes places at London’s Olympia on May 22-23.
Here we turn the spotlight onto Conti-Espresso, manufacturers of hand-crafted espresso machines since 1957.
What will you be showcasing at the show?
We will be showcasing the Conti-Espresso machine portfolio, alongside the extensive range of grinder from Compak, with the spotlight on a one off single group Monte Carlo.
This flagship 1grp 'tip toes' us closer to building a fully-fledged domestic machine based upon our hugely successful Monte Carlo flagship machine. We will be continuing the introduction to the Sixty multi-boiler lever espresso machine - reintroducing the lost art of pulling a shot on a classic lever machine, coupled with modern electronics to ensure consistency and repeatability.
In addition to the Conti portfolio we are very excited to be displaying the latest range of PK grinders from Compak. Ultra-slow RPM, high precision burrs and grind by weight technology results in a richer, sweeter, more complex espresso in the cup.
What do you see as the key current opportunities and challenges for the sector right now?
There are still incredible opportunities for the high street, where the potential to improve is still significant. Speciality is doing incredibly well, but for every great speciality shop there are 10 outlets selling terrible quality. I see that changing, with a reduction in the number of overall outlets and with those surviving being at the premium end – a little like what has happened to pub industry in the late 2000s.
This said, I can’t help but be very concerned about the future for our economy, availability of good staff and Government policy, such as a potential 'Latte Levy', which could really hit the small businesses.
Away from the high street, restaurants and hotels could still do so much better – it’s great seeing what the likes of Soho House are doing with their coffee offering. Hopefully more luxury (and non-luxury) operators can follow suit.
And how are you responding?
As a manufacturer we are constantly striving to implement new technologies to help lift quality standards across the spectrum.
One area that can lift quality and improve consistency is the use of the various capsule formats - in hotels and restaurants, capsules are already heavily in use.
Introducing speciality grade coffee to this environment will significantly increase the experience for the customer and hopefully make fantastic financial sense for the business – with lack of waste and consistency of product. We are heavily involved with capsule technology, be it Nespresso Compatible, Lavazza Blue, ESE or FAP formats. We should have a complete range of machinery to launch later in 2018.
Why European Coffee Expo? What attracted you to exhibit at this show?
The appeal of the Expo is that it is a two day event, mid-week and more focused on business-to-business sales. We were looking for another major coffee focused show to exhibit at and ensure we get the brand seen by as many potential customers as possible.

Nestled quietly within the heart of Monaco is our small but perfectly formed factory, hand crafting espresso machines since 1957.
With only a small 12" by 6" name plaque giving our location away, you could be forgiven for never noticing it, the same cannot be said for our portfolio of machinery!
With nearly 60 years of manufacturing experience, this privately owned and operated business is synonymous with exceptional quality and reliability from its machinery. Combining this with a genuine passion for innovation and fantastic coffee, makes us one of the rising stars within the machine world.
Our obsession to take a raw material such as stainless steel, to shape it, weld it and craft it, to do whatever it takes to create beautiful espresso machines, means that we can strive for superior quality and technical excellence, in fact over 80% of components are still manufactured within the Monaco plant.
Our range of machines and ancillaries ensures that we have the perfect solution regardless of the circumstance or environment, be that an independent high street café to national chain or corporate environment.
The UK office is in Royston, Hertfordshire, centrally located and just a forty minute train ride from King's Cross, this gives clients the perfect opportunity to gain hands on experience with the machines in our showroom, as well as a convenient base for us to handle UK wide logistics.
