Bodum launches into UK hospitality sector

Bodum UK, the premium kitchen equipment supplier, has launched into the hospitality and food service sector at the European Coffee Expo.

The brand, which started in Copenhagen in 1944, is famous for its coffee press, grinders, tea makers and travel mugs, which are sold to the 'at home' market.

It is now launching into the hospitality sector with a range of shatterproof Pavina double wall polycarbonate drinkware. It has been designed not to crack, shatter, cloud or discolour and looks like glass but is more durable, the company said. It also has the benefit of being dishwasher safe and able to withstand high temperatures.

Bodum UK is also promoting its range of travel mugs and Joy cups, which are sustainable solution to drinks on the go.

Bodum's CEO Jorgen Boden told Coffee Business World it was a long overdue move and fitted with what the company did in other parts of the world. He also revealed one of the first orders for its Joy cup was for the Rolls Royce factory, with 18,000 cups being delivered in September/October. "The lids of the cups have a smart chip, and employees keep the lid and pick up a new, clean cup each time. The system takes time to build up, as people need to get used to returning used cups each time, which are then washed and given out again, but this way the cups are truly reuseable and it avoids having to carry around a dirty one." Employees can't forget their lid either, otherwise they won't be able to get their drink!

Bodum was also excited about the development of its Mocca slow brew coffee system (Jorgen Bodum and the Mocca are pictured right), to be available in the UK later this summer, which brewed up to eight cups at a time. "In Starbucks' roastery it has several of them lined up on the bar all brewing coffee. In the same way consumers appreciate more complicated, slow to produce food when they dine out, the same is becoming true in coffee. Slow brew has always been popular with 'coffee people' but it now catching on with the masses," he said. He added that the Mocca system could easily be placed in 'non-essential' coffee making areas of the counter, away from the main coffee machines.

Speaking about the show, Jeremy Grant, Bodum UK country manager, said: “We at Bodum are really happy to support the European Coffee Expo and launch our brand into the food service and hospitality sector.

“We are pleased to present for the first time our new ranges of shatterproof polycarbonate drink ware and Coffee makers, which we think would be perfect for use in hotels and restaurants. This includes our iconic Chambord design French press.”
