Big dog Grayson gives Esquires new concept the paws up

The adage of ‘never work with children or animals’ fell by the wayside last Thursday, when Esquires Coffee officially opened its first Coffee & Kitchen concept in Putney. British actor Ralph Ineson (known for his roles in Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Star Wars) arrived with his spectacular Great Dane, Grayson, while the offer of free face painting and refreshments on a wonderful sunny afternoon brought out the buggy brigade in their masses.

There was hardly space to move as mums, babies, toddlers and school kids enjoyed the wonderful spread laid on by development chef Alex Abel – with outside room only for Grayson, Ineson and Billie, Ineson’s Labrador.

Esquires’ founder Doug Williamson was left in a supporting role as 16-month old Grayson grabbed all the attention.

Coffee & Kitchen’s next opening is set to be in Peckham Rye, followed by Tunbridge Wells and Bournemouth.

Expansion plans move ahead

Esquires plans to develop new sites across the UK by working with regional development partners in nine key territories, has moved forward this month as it makes first appointments.

In the South East, Williamson told Coffee Business World, it will be working with an existing Esquire’s multiple store operator to open 67 stores over the next 10 years, while in the North West, it was in the final stages of negotiations with an operator committed to opening 57 stores.

Early negotiations were going on with interested parties in Scotland and Wales, with Williamson hoping that partners in all the nine regions will be appointed by the end of the year.
