Bear on target to open third site
The Bear Coffee Company, which opened its second Coffee, Kitchen & Bar concept in Derby in December, is planning a third site, its first foray into Manchester in June with plans to have 30 sites nationally within five years.
Craig Bunting (pictured right), who co-founded Bear with Michael Thorley in 2014, explained that at the heart of Bear was a desire to encourage people to come in and find out more about coffee. "We try to differentiate ourselves from what else is out there. The coffee shop market is saturated and it’s about looking where there is room for growth. Being situated in the Midlands is different because people aren’t as switched onto the coffee offer as they may be in London. They just want to ‘go and have a coffee’, so it’s really important to us that we talk to people about what coffee means to us."
Bear’s first site was in Uttoxeter and opened with the slogan 'not another coffee shop'', with the concept offering an all-day environment that transforms from coffee shop at 8am to restaurant and bar well into the evening.
The Bear offer includes great coffee, loose-leaf teas, craft beers, cocktails and wine – with good quality food to "glue" everything together. It is open 8am until 10pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and 8am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
